As you may know, Goldmoney’s Prepaid Card has been issued in partnership with Wirecard Bank in Germany, one of the leading prepaid debit card issuers in the world.
Unfortunately, there have been proposals to restrict the issuance of prepaid debit cards from EU banks to citizens outside of the European Economic Area ("EEA"). As a result, and due to recent changes in the regulatory regime in the EU, Goldmoney has been required to make changes to our card issuing program for all our clients that reside in non-EEA countries.
These changes take effect on October 31, 2018 for plastic prepaid cards and December 10, 2018 for metal prepaid cards.
This ONLY affects our card holders in non-EEA countries (such as the US and Canada) and it ONLY affects our prepaid card program. Your Goldmoney Network Account and Goldmoney Holding are not affected.
Frequently Asked Questions
1. What will happen to my Goldmoney Prepaid Card?
As of October 31st, 2018, your plastic prepaid card has expired and is no longer active.
On December 10th, 2018, your metal prepaid card will no longer be active. This means that you will not be permitted to load the card or spend any balance that remains on the card.
2. What happens if I don't spend my card balance?
Any funds that remain on your plastic card can be sent back to your Goldmoney Personal account in gold grams or to your Goldmoney Holding in the card currency by initiating the refund process with Intercash directly.
All metal card holders will be personally contacted to facilitate moving your prepaid card balance back to your Holding.
3. Will I receive a replacement card?
We currently are in the process of reinstating our prepaid card program to non-EEA countries. We hope to have this resolved as soon as possible.
We are still exploring possible replacement card solutions for our metal cards, though we have no short-term plans to offer a replacement card.
4. What are EEA countries?
For the time being, we only offer our plastic and metal prepaid card program to clients who reside in the following countries:
|Czech Republic||Latvia||Saint Martin|
5. Will I be able to keep my metal card?
Should you wish to keep your metal prepaid card for it's intrinsic value, you are free to do so. Otherwise, we will have a process for you to return your metal card to us so that we can reimburse you for the original issuance costs.
6. I have recently requested my prepaid card and it hasn't arrived yet. What do I do?
Unfortunately, your recently issued card will also be affected by this change. If it is a metal prepaid card, you are eligible for a refund of the issuance fee.
7. My prepaid card was previously suspended. What do I do?
Please contact our Relationship Management team, as the status of previously suspended card will be determined on a case-by-case basis by our Compliance team.
